No matter how you slice it or how much money you will be paid, leaving the indie road for a corporate career basically means you went from owning your own business to being a temp worker on a short-term contract.

“The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places.” – Author Unknown Being my own boss, I fall victim to many different things. It’s easy to procrastinate – to put things off that don’t need to be done right away. Sometimes, this causes me to put things off indefinitely. It’s never my intention [...]

“Write without pay until somebody offers to pay” - Mark Twain There are a lot of writers who attempt to produce “art.” It is polished. Loved. Studied in depth and then gently caressed into the beautiful flower the author has nurtured in their heart. But as any good gardener knows, you can’t pop a hot-house orchid [...]

In my youth, I was surrounded by books and movies (I even worked in a dollar theater for a time that showed second-run movies.), so I guess you could say that “stories” are what helped me grow up. Even when I was in college at the U.S. Naval Academy, I was a history major, primarily [...]

One of the first things an eBook Author must learn to use is the power of links. Whether you’re creating your ebook, setting up your web site, writing a blog or joining a group on the Internet, hyperlinks are what make things happen. The more clicks, the more chances of your success. The synergy created [...]

One of the things I love best about DVDs are the special features. I love learning how and why a movie was made as much as (and maybe more than) the the movie itself. The same goes for books. I love learning about the process that went on from conception to publication and all the steps and changes that happened along. So in that spirit, I thought I’d share my own writing process for those who are curious about where my stories come from.

In the last month or so I started researching the controversy over the sale of the eBook A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and Amazon pulling a copy with a price from its store and substituting their own free copy. I was curious about the rendering of the replaced book and whether the [...]

Rendered eBooks The eBook Author has the opportunity to add to the reading experience. The eBook conversion process must be much more than converting a paper book to a digital format. It must take advantage of the power of the electronic reader. The eBook author is defined as an author who is writing directly to [...]

Every day I’m reminding someone in my life to focus. If it’s not my children or my students, then it’s my husband. When it comes to writing, we have to find a way to focus on the writing we want to produce. But in reality, “focus” can be challenging, especially when your days and nights [...]

It’s only a little over three months before I publish my first novel. I’ve known from my other writings that people can vary widely in their response to any given set of words. Even calling my next book a novel has varying reactions. It will top-out at about 45,000 words. Many people will tell you [...]
