Ebook Authors: Do you really want to be an old time author?

Do you really want to be an old time author and publish your book traditionally or do you want to be an eBook author and self-publish your content on-line? That’s the question.

An old time author! Are you one of them? You know the traditional author that has beat his head against publisher’s front doors for a long time and hasn’t gotten in. Or the writer that creates good content but has to do all his own marketing and his book is just not flying off the shelves. Or the one who has heard about ebooks but is not tech-savvy […]

Ebook Authors: 17 Great Information Sources

I have been asked several times this month what I think are the best current sources of information for the eBook author. I think research is a key element in an indie’s quest for success so I spend a lot of time reading blogs and books on publishing and writing.

I did a little research on my research and this is what I came up with. These are my favorites. You may not agree or I have left a good blog out but at least this list could be a starting point for the would-be author.

I have over 100 […]

Free Tools For Authors From Ebook Friendly

Ebook Friendly - a distraction-free way to discover and buy ebooksSome of you already know that I founded Ebook Friendly – a special kind of e-bookstore addressed to those readers who are aware of distractions the web brings and want to avoid them at the stage of browsing for books. Because reading is all about being focused, opposite to Internet – which is all about being distracted.

Reader friendly interface is one part of the proposition.

As a self-publisher I also want to make this site a place where great books from self-published authors can be easily discovered. There is no better way to do it than help the […]

The Myth of Self-Publishing, Part 1

I can only comment as someone who writes to get people to read what he writes, but doesn’t do a good job of selling his writing. Reading about the great success of Amanda Hocking should make me jealous, but it has the opposite effect.  I read about her success, and wish her well, the way I wished Jennifer Anniston well when Brad left her for Angelina. Amanda has become unreal to me, a celebrity among other celebrities, while I’m still all too real for my own good. Brad may leave Angelina for Amanda for all I know. It is so […]

5 creative book marketing and promotion tips with fiverr.com

Two nights ago I became addicted to the website www.fiverr.com. If you haven’t heard of fiverr, it’s a website that allows people to offer to do a variety of things for five bucks. There are hundreds of different kinds of things people are willing to do – and at $5 per job, many of them are fantastic bargains. Here are a few of the more interesting things I’ve found and am testing in my book promotion and marketing:

1) Improve your PR-rank. If you have a blog or website, it’s important to have a lot of high quality links […]

A new resource for indie-authors? Foozago books and the indie book event.

I came across Foozago Books: Indies while searching for indie book stores for my self-published non-fiction book. Then I came across them again on the discussion of Joel Friedlander’s (The Book Designer) post indie bookstores vs. indie publishers.

Basically they are a little amazon, but you have to print and send them your books. They’ll list them and give you 60%. Joel and others point out that this isn’t a great way to make money – and it isn’t, not in the long term. But in the beginning, it isn’t about money, it’s about exposure. It’s about being everywhere. And […]

How to use a book trailer to promote your book – and where to get a cheap one made.

Book trailers have become a staple in the publishing industry. Unfortunately they can costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars (for only 1 minute of video!). Do you really need a book trailer to promote your book? Where can you find high quality, low cost video production? What do you do with a book trailer once you’ve got one? Here are some tips.

1) Making the trailer. There are two ways to go. One is high quality, professionalism. Like a movie trailer from WB. These can be pretty expensive but stand out from the majority of book trailers (which are […]

How to get your book reviewed – by avoiding book reviewers.

To have a chance at selling your book on amazon or online, you need reviews. Lots of them. And if you’re like me, you hate pushing all your friends and family to review your work (is it really fair to ask them?) and leave comments. So most authors do this:

1) Search online for book reviews, indie book reviewers, self-published book reviews, how to get book reviews, etc.

2) Email or contact those reviewers asking them to take a look at their books and comment.

Here’s why that doesn’t work. First of all – those few sites that offer […]
