One of the key factors to self-publishing is to have a well-edited book. My company, FictionBrigade, is currently on Kickstarter (a funding platform for creative outlets) and several of our rewards are editing services to help writers polish their work for publication. Our emphasis is on short stories and flash fiction, but the cost of the editing reward is I think comparable or less expensive than other services. To give you some background, my partner and I are finishing our M.S. in publishing at NYU, and we’ve worked at LIFE, Simon & Schuster, Random House, and Oxford University Press.
