Wow! Quite an honor to be judging the spur Awards. You’re a busy lady. Do you still get enough time to ride? You were saying how much you enjoyed it. Well, like you say, it’s time to get back to slaying the dragons. Enjoy living, young lady!

Finished judging a fiction category for the Spur Awards, the Western Writers of America’ highest accolade. Thoroughly enjoyed working with the other two judges, and discovered we’re all passionate about the Western as a genre. Although the traditional Western has a dwindling audience, general fiction with a Western setting, historical or modern, enjoys a significant following. 1 week, 1 day ago

Remember the kaleidoscope? How it was a jumble of colored glass bits until you turned it that one last time and all the pieces united into a beautiful design?
That’s writing. I keep turning the kaleidoscope until the novel is done. Editing is a joy. It’s another turn, and starts to bring out the design.

Glad to hear from you again. You’re into the fun stuff now: EDITING! I don’t think any writer enjoys that part as much as telling the story. Keep working at it; sounds like your support group is behind you. Yea!As for me, non-fiction is tough: it hurts. What can I say? But I have to tell the story, pain or not. Wish me luck. Love your craft, young lady!

Hi Carol,
Congratulations on the Spur Award. Thanks for your comments.
The Unveiling has been on amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com as well as in several Toronto bookstores for a few months now. In writing it, I drew upon interviews with family members and extensive historical research to weave together the dreams, fears, and accomplishments of three generations within a family. It is about the darkness that family secrets often bring with them, resilience in the face of adversity, and the light that comes when the truth is revealed. As you suggested, I will contact Henry Baum to request a review. Best regards. -
