G. Hugh Bodell commented on the blog post What’s So “Indie” About Indie Writers? 2 months, 2 weeks ago · View
Henry is probably right, the term indie writer is probably misleading and inappropriate. A more appropriate (but a far bigger mouthful) would be Disintermediated Writer. Disintermediation was a term we coined in the 80s in the financial services industry when we bypassed middlemen on financial products, eliminating brokers in every facet from securities transactions to [...]

Diana, I went to the forum you warned about and thanks to your advice viewed the exchange only. As a boy growing up my father told me, when words would upset me, “Take it from whence it comes” These folk appear to have issues far beyond their contempt for independent authors so your advice is [...]

Congratulations Diana. The beauty of tody’s publishing landscape is that every writer can find what works for them. The objective is getting our creative work in the hands of as many appreciative readers as possible…and there have never been so many options and so few boundaries to accomplish taht goal as there are today.

Thank you Ron and Emily. We are fortunate to be part of such a dramatically changing industry.

G. Hugh Bodell wrote a new blog post: When Does Self-Publishing Becoming Publishing Through an Independent Publisher? 9 months, 1 week ago · View
An interesting question came up in discussions we held this weekend with a young writer who has an idea for a book and wanted to hear how we transitioned from our past careers to writing and publishing. We told him our tale of the journey but then drifted off into a more ethereal discussion of when does [...] -
G. Hugh Bodell commented on the blog post Waiting for Karl Rove – Self-Publishing Controversial Books 9 months, 2 weeks ago · View
As an author and independent publisher I would have to say that one of the benefits to both author and reader of independent publishing is the freedom of publishing without running the gauntlet of the political positions or the political correctness of gatekeepers. In our country of over 190 million folk over the age of [...]

G. Hugh Bodell started the forum topic Blog Pending Status in the group A3: Authors Assisting Authors: 9 months, 2 weeks ago · View
When I recently completed editing a Blog I intended to publish but noted that it should be submitted for review. On doing that I saw that it went into a ‘Pending’ status apparently awaiting review.
About how long does it remain in that status before being ‘Published’?
Thanks.

Fantastic post Eric and congratulations.
My second book Treachery In Turtle Bay II went live today on a few sites (Links at http://www.treacheryinturtlebay.com) via CreateSpace and thanks to that great Amazon entity will be available to libraries and book stores globally in a few weeks. (Book one already is there). Kindle is in processing [...]1 year, 11 months ago · View

Fantastic, cogent, logical and truly enjoyable Henry.
As with the Music Industry, publishing (both legacy and interactive) will continue to produce material that is garbage but marketable and brilliant but without a paying audience.
For my two cents, I think the proportion in both product delivery venues will eventually look the same.1 year, 11 months ago · View

I couldn't agree more. My experience (although far less in volume thanyours) has been the same. My second book will be released March 1 and I am making no efforts to distribute in any other e-book format but Kindle. My first book, Treachery In Turtle Bay has had constant sales via kindle [...]

So Lee, what you are saying is that we, on this board, are an elite group of smart people that can tell an econmically bad deal from a good one (assuming the only reason for the self publishing is a business one) but the rest of the writing world is too dumb to see that [...]

“DellArte, the partnership between Harlequin and Author House, is based on the same deceptive and predatory model.”
“…is the unethical and predatory conflict-of-interest that exists between their business entity that *pays* authors and the one that *charges* them”
My goodness Lee, Henry is right your words tend to be inflammatory.
I will add that they are also insulting [...]2 years ago · View

Thank you Mick Rooney!
You said it all, “They know what a good paid service is and isn’t. To suggest their endeavors are vanity is quite frankly puerile and offensive.”
It seems to me, a newcomer to the world of writing and publishing (2006), that those in the industry that publish other peoples work Random House, Simon [...]2 years ago · View

Interesting video and interesting discussion. After reading the posts and following the link to Shiloh Walker’s blog it appears to me that this issue has little to do with the merits of self or independent publishing and more to do with the self interest of a business selling snow balls in hell to dumb consumers…nothing [...]
