Since this seems close to the “too good to be true” department, I’ll be interested in Matt’s results. Of course, if you have a sales funnel and products to support it, this type of advertising could be quite lucrative. Whether it will work for book sales is an interesting question. Novels especially seem to sell [...]

Joel Friedlander commented on the blog post The iPad is Incredible: A Review 1 year, 10 months ago
I waited a month to get an iPad. When they passed the 1 million shipped, I went down and order it without a clear idea of what I would do with the thing. An iPhone user, the interface was quite familiar. Now I carry it around finding new ways to use it constantly. It’s very [...]

Hey Cathi, Thanks for the reply. When I saw your snippet I checked back with Blurb.com and it appears that the articles previously on their site about RGB have been removed (although the references to them are still showing up in the search on their site). So apparently Blurb has changed their workflow, which is [...]

More great tips, Cathi, that’s really useful. You might be interested to know that Blurb.com, the digital short-run color book printer, actually prefers books to be uploaded in RGB rather than CMYK, which was a surprise to me. They are the only ones I know of that request RGB. However, I have to say they’ve [...]

Duolit,
I absolutely agree with Cheryl also. Your primary responsibility to your book is as a writer, and it will succeed based on the content, not the widows and orphans. I see them as additive, but it’s interesting being a writer and a… -

Cheryl,
Widows and orphans, hyphenation, and “rivers” in the page are what bedevil typesetters. For most books I prefer to kill the widows and orphans (sounds cruel, doesn’t it?) and have the odd page with an extra space at the bottom.… -

Pete,
Thanks for your additional input, which is really valuable. I agree that rendering the title in Illustrator and then embossing and foiling it would have made a big difference. And your prices are pretty much right in line with my… -

Henry, the unit cost in this case would be directly related to the quantity the author printed, unlike digital, where one book costs the same as 100. I would not assume this book cost more than at LSI, the only extra cost would have been…
