“After that, I cannot help but think the entire process has been a crapshoot, based on whether you get a good reviewer or not.”
Kind of like publishing?

Yes…it’s finally here! Inside The Writers’ Studio Episode IV, “Self-Promotion FAIL” with special guest star Caroline Leavitt. (And if you want to post it on your own blogs or Facebook accounts, or Tweet it, we will surely not complain.)Three authors illustrate why maybe – just maybe – self-promotion doesn’t always work.

Kristen Tsetsi wrote a new blog post: Comic Relief! “Writing, Time Management, and You”
Life is short, and the business of self-publishing, while completely joyful, can also make you want to stab yourself in the throat – but in the end, what’s most important is to remember why we write.
Or rather, why we don’t.

Zoe – I do have my own ISBN and my own imprint (I just use Lulu to print). So, then, I would just need to find a different printer and get distribution. Hm. A project!

Kristen Tsetsi commented on the blog post The Real Source of Self-Publishing Stigma
Last name: Tsetsi.

As for bookstores, there *are* ways to get your books into bookstores, but consignment ain’t it. Your book needs to be returnable and you need to follow the protocols for getting small press books reviewed at the top level of the bookstore chains. If you go through the proper hoops then yes, [...]4 months, 2 weeks ago · View

Kristen Tsetsi commented on the blog post Do writers use Twitter? You bet your sweet tweet they do.
I used twitter for marketing, initially, and I met some great people there, but I just don’t have whatever it is that allows me to regularly contribute to the many lines of chatter and the hundreds of different conversations. I also am not a naturally “popular” or socially active person who engages successfully in small-talk, [...]

Kristen Tsetsi wrote a new blog post: This isn’t about self-publishing.
But it is about a writer, and writers like stories about writers, right? Particularly when the writers is J.D. Salinger. (Even if you’re not a fan of his, surely you’re curious about him…? No…?)
*The following originally posted at my old blogsite in June of ‘09. After reading the many articles today about Salinger’s death, [...]6 months ago · View

Kristen Tsetsi commented on the blog post Reviewing the Professional Review
I’ve noticed that reviews alone do not increase sales. However, the more good reviews you get in different venues, the more people hear about your book/your writing/your name, and the larger the presence you create for yourself in the book world. Which will be helpful when the next one comes out.
Additionally, if you get a [...]6 months ago · View

Thanks, Steelwad. The thing is, I don’t believe in abstinence. I enjoy having a cigarette now and then. I smoke the same way people eat dessert food and candy (or, should eat dessert food and candy) – in moderation.
But the marketing thing…that is hard to do in moderation because it requires shifting to a certain [...]6 months ago · View
