You DIDN’T help, thank you very much.
The “fell through” part is complex and convoluted. Suffice it to say, it may go back to being “Homefront,” as much as I’ve come to not like the title.

Here I was, thinking I’d pretty much decided to send out query letters to publishers about my once self-pubbed novel, and along comes this piece to mess me all up. After releasing “Homefront,” I got reviews (good ones) from some pretty credible places I was surprised were actually willing to look at a self-pub, places [...]

As self-publishing becomes an increasingly popular option for writers of all kinds (the good and the not so good, those who have tried the agent route and those who haven’t), there are those who continue to cling – and probably will for some time – to the idea that self-publishing is an avenue for the author [...] -

One other thing publishers get you is access to reviewers and entry into book competitions. So, while they may take profits and many of the rights, they also make it easier to have your book seen by more people – just because their logo is on the binding. So, there are certainly benefits, depending on [...]

A post from Inside the Writers Studio : Craig Lancaster , author of the widely praised 600 Hours of Edward and the forthcoming novel The Summer Son (to be released by AmazonEncore in early 2011) wanted to do something for others this Christmas season, so he wrote a fantastic holiday-themed story, “Comfort and Joy,” to sell on Amazon and Smashwords for $1. However, that he [...] -

“After that, I cannot help but think the entire process has been a crapshoot, based on whether you get a good reviewer or not.”
Kind of like publishing?

Yes…it’s finally here! Inside The Writers’ Studio Episode IV, “Self-Promotion FAIL” with special guest star Caroline Leavitt. (And if you want to post it on your own blogs or Facebook accounts, or Tweet it, we will surely not complain.)Three authors illustrate why maybe – just maybe – self-promotion doesn’t always work.

Life is short, and the business of self-publishing, while completely joyful, can also make you want to stab yourself in the throat – but in the end, what’s most important is to remember why we write.
Or rather, why we don’t.

Zoe – I do have my own ISBN and my own imprint (I just use Lulu to print). So, then, I would just need to find a different printer and get distribution. Hm. A project!

Last name: Tsetsi.

As for bookstores, there *are* ways to get your books into bookstores, but consignment ain’t it. Your book needs to be returnable and you need to follow the protocols for getting small press books reviewed at the top level of the bookstore chains. If you go through the proper hoops then yes, [...]1 year, 10 months ago · View
