Did you try contacting the person directly? It can work wonders; why not offer to review their book in exchange for them removing their negative reviews – only they have the power to fix this. As for covers, he’s kind of got a point. I’m sure it’s coincidental, but both covers show a redhead with [...]

(I’m embarrassingly prone to typos, as you can see in the above comment).

One extra stipulation I would add: For my “self-publishing” is trying to do everything by yourself, including design, formatting, cover, editing and publicity marketing. Bookstores and readers are hesitant to get behind a “self-published” title because it’s virtually impossible for a writer to be good enough at all of these things to present a high [...]

That’s too bad! I saw his post, it says he’ll promote it but doesn’t promise more likes. Were you able to customize the message or did he just share the link? Next time see if you can write the perfect hook – it’s one thing to get in front of a lot of people, another [...]
Derek Murphy commented on the blog post 5 creative book marketing and promotion tips with fiverr.com 2 years, 1 month ago
Thanks for your feedback – so far I’ve only used fiverr.com to get more backlinks and to have people put up fliers in real places. (Both gave me more traffic). I don’t know how well other things like the Twitter or Facebook posts are, but I’ll be trying them anyway. Yes people read a good [...]

Thanks Ron – it was a pain to write but I think I did alright in the end.

Yes – he’s way over the top sometimes. But his results are astounding.

I didn’t think of that; but if you read the comments on the link you provided, a lot of them are positive. At least for $5, it’s very low risk. Most of the projects send proof (ie they took pictures of my book flier that they had put up); or you should be able to [...]

Although Tim Ferriss (4 Hour Work Week, 4 Hour Body) isn’t self published, his success is due entirely to his own promotion and marketing tactics. Pretty much single handedly he’s created a book promotion campaign strategy that is keeping both his books high on the best-seller lists, for years. A couple days ago he announced that he’s [...]Derek Murphy wrote a new blog post: 5 creative book marketing and promotion tips with fiverr.com 2 years, 1 month ago
Two nights ago I became addicted to the website http://www.fiverr.com. If you haven’t heard of fiverr, it’s a website that allows people to offer to do a variety of things for five bucks. There are hundreds of different kinds of things people are willing to do – and at $5 per job, many of them are [...]Derek Murphy commented on the blog post How to get your book reviewed – by avoiding book reviewers. 2 years, 1 month ago
For most browsers, you can add a plugin or addon that shows the PR when you visit a site. The PR is usually only for the main page; PR is about the “authority” of your site and is based on how many quality sites are linking to you. Usually it grows with time and by [...]

Thanks Shannon, I’m ashamed and properly mollified. I wasn’t clear enough in my post and I didn’t mean to attack indie reviewers. I had two main points – one is that my email system wasn’t very nice (they should have been more personal and less spammy, but I appreciate you overlooking that). The second is [...]
Derek Murphy wrote a new blog post: A new resource for indie-authors? Foozago books and the indie book event. 2 years, 1 month ago
I came across Foozago Books: Indies while searching for indie book stores for my self-published non-fiction book. Then I came across them again on the discussion of Joel Friedlander’s (The Book Designer) post indie bookstores vs. indie publishers. Basically they are a little amazon, but you have to print and send them your books. They’ll list…[Read more]Derek Murphy commented on the blog post How to use a book trailer to promote your book – and where to get a cheap one made. 2 years, 1 month ago
Another possible trick you could use: you’ve got an advantage since Auel’s new book is in amazon’s top 100. Every couple of days, go on amazon and buy a copy of her book and a copy of your book. You could encourage friends and family to do the same. It might cause amazon to recommend [...]

I think she should write a book about her experiences. Hell she could say that she was “Featured in Forbes” – how many of us can say that? A book about her story and the comments it generated would be an interesting non-fiction.

Your cover is beautiful – and yes it’s a good choice to put them first. I’m not really sure anybody needs a book trailer after all, and if money is tight, focus on editing and the cover. As someone who lived in Valletta for 3 years, I look forward to reading your book.
BTW [...]Derek Murphy commented on the blog post How to use a book trailer to promote your book – and where to get a cheap one made. 2 years, 1 month ago
One more more – your kindle version has hyperlinks for the main characters names… it’s distracting. If you can, I’d remove them.
