So maybe sales haven’t completely stalled. They stall for a day or two, then more copies move. ’Unpredictable’ is a word I could easily assign to my self-publishing experience at the moment.

Sales seem to have stalled but my rank is still fluctuating rather wildly. Also: self-promotion is quite tiring.
There is one thing I have done and might have forgotten to mention to you. I designed a business card for my novel, printed them from my computer, and cut them to size. I’m absolutely certain they have brought in some sales. From store cashiers, to waiters, to doctors, to the guy from whom we bought a mattress, to friends and work associates, I don’t discriminate. If I discern they might be a reader, I give them a card. Here’s the content I included:

My ranking has hit 18,840 — the highest yet. This is wonderful. Now, it doesn’t mean I’ve been selling like hotcakes (10 people’ve bought it so far), but it’s still a good sign.

I joined this quite some time ago with the intention of self-publishing … and I finally have. Just uploaded a short to Amazon. The process was a breeze, but I am at a loss as to why I can’t *really* set my own price. My intention was to make my short stories available for $.50 — which seems reasonable, as opposed to $2.99. I had to settle for 35% at $.99. Nonsense, I say! Let the people read a few pages for less than a buck.
