Okay so on “pimp my novel”: Prithee Convince Me: Self-Publishing the blog poster wants self-publishing authors to “convince him” that self-publishing is a viable alternative to trad publishing. According to his blog bio, he works in the sales department of a publishing house. What’s most interesting is in the comments section, almost all of the people commenting [...] -

So here is the thing… There is a lot of talk about the “stigma” of self-publishing. But for the most part this stigma is rather contained. For example: Mainstream Publishers/Agents: They don’t really care whether you self-publish or not. I mean think about this for a moment. If you’re self-publishing, you’re one less manuscript in their slush pile. [...] -

I should have mentioned in my original comment that this post is awesome and I get what you’re saying and appreciate what you’re saying. Just re-read my comments and realized I totally side-tracked that part cause I got hung up on the money part of it. But the truth is, for most authors no matter [...]

Hey Hamish, I know it wasn’t a pot shot, lol. I hope I didn’t come off like I thought it was.
And I agree. There does need to be some balance. If someone just wants to make money, lord there are many easier industries to get into!

Hamish,
I think I’m probably far more calculating than the average indie author. But I’m proud to wear that banner.

Jenn,
Edison held out hope over a thousand times before he got his lightbulb groove working. If he’d quit after the 29th try we might all still be living in candlelight.2 years ago · View

Dude, I said your name twice in one sentence. Why do I hit “submit” before re-reading? I swear. Gah.

hehehe Jenn, we really have to work on your optimism button Jenn. The human being can and often does live to be 100. Yes some people die before that, but no one assumes they’ll die when they’re fifty and decides 25 is middle aged. 50 is middle-aged for a human being. You are [...]

hmmmm. See, I don’t believe in the starving artist mentality. Period. Now do I think I’m going to get rich and famous? Well probably not. But there is QUITE a range of monetary reward between starving artist and rich and famous. I fully expect to be making a full living from my self-publishing endeavors [...]

Zoe Winters commented on the blog post The Eyes of Editing
Hey Vicki! A certain number of errors inevitably creep into any text, though I’m always hoping it will be mild punctuation errors in my work because with spelling errors and typos some readers get jarred momentarily from the story, but if I’ve got a comma instead of a semi-colon accidentally, for example, “most” readers [...]

I’ve said for awhile now, that though I appreciate the opportunities Amazon gives to indie authors, that we shouldn’t be “too” grateful because they are ripping us off on Kindle sales. On Kindle we only get 35% cut, that’s less than industry standard [...]2 years, 7 months ago · View

On the surface, self publishing sounds like a really bad idea. Despite denials to the contrary, it seems that one of the biggest fears in the back of people’s minds is that of supply and demand. With self publishing we have more and more books in the marketplace, but most people don’t seem to have [...] -
