5 Summer Writing Contests 2017

Summertime for a lot of us means time to write! So here are five decently-prized contests to enter this season.


Micro Story Contest – Museo de la Palabra

The Museo de la Palabra (Museum of Word) is a heritage site of the Fundación César Egido Serrano, it is located in Quero, Toledo (Spain), on the first route of Don Quixote. The César Egido Serrano Foundation is a non-profit Foundation, whose objective is to use words and dialogue as a tool for understanding between different cultures and religions. The competition first prize is $20,000 for the best short story. All entries will be evaluated by an international jury of great prestige, and the finalist’s stories will be published. A maximum of two stories per person of no more than 100 words each, should be submitted from the following link:

Baum Book Prize – Kwill Books

Baum Book Prize 2017- Win $3000 book deal

The Baum Indie Book Prize awards a book deal worth over $3000 to one unpublished book. This deal includes editing, notes, formatting, design, publishing, and marketing with a book trailer and Amazon promotions. The Gival Short Story Award – Gival Press

“Submissions of a previously unpublished original (not a translation) short story in English must be approximately 5,000 to 15,000 words of high literary quality, typed, double-spaced on one side of the paper only, with word count in the upper left hand side of the first page, along with the title. The author’s name should not appear on the numbered pages of the ms which should be clipped together. Author should keep a copy of the submission as it will not be returned.” The deadline is August 8, 2017. The Winning Author will receive $1,000.00 and the winning story will be published on the Gival Press website and in a future anthology of short stories.

The Spare Min Awkward Summer Story (Audio)

Grand prize winner will receive a $500 Amazon Gift Card. Deadline August 15.  Must have Android or iPhone access to download the app to enter.

The L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest


Whatever you think of L. Ron Hubbard, there’s no doubt he wrote compelling science fiction! This contest gives Fantasy and Sci Fi writers a chance to win a big cash prize with a free entry.
