Writing at home

It’s going to be a challenge this year, but writing offers an escape from the world like no other.

Here we are folks, the middle of a pandemic, political unrest, climate crises, police violence, and insurrection. But if you are a writer, this is an excellent time for you to get that book done.

Lockdown Blues

So you can’t leave the house? What are you waiting for? You’ve been saying if only you had time to do that book. Now you do. Business News Daily reported that a study found that people who work from home gain 1.4 days a week, so that’s a load of writing time if you can work smart between times.

If you have kids running about under your feet, why not get them writing a book too? Here’s a brilliant post by Reading Eggs on how to get children started.

Worries About The World

Yes, the world is terribly fragile. But it always has been. Look at this list of world events, and you’ll realize we will get through this. But for now, you can’t do anything about it. So you may as well write. Turn off the news and immerse yourself in your fiction, organized world.

Kazuo Ishiguro, one of the most wonderful writers of our time, said, “I discovered that my imagination came alive when I moved away from the immediate world around me.”

Financial Issues

The situation is grim, but instead of spending money on going out drinking, eating, shopping, and dancing, you know what’s free? Writing. Imagination. Dreaming. This is your chance to really stay still and listen to the muse. You’ll find it extremely entertaining.

Grief and Loss

“Writing may help you to sort out your thoughts and to express your emotions,” says Stephanie Ericsson in her book, “Companion Through The Darkness.”

One of the most devastating aspects of the pandemic for us all is losing a loved one. Some of us are just feeling a general loss in the air. The website Grief and Sympathy has many great resources, especially this advice on writing through grief.
